Grunge music is basically defined by heavy guitar riffs and filthy (in a good way) drums. This type of music became popular mainly in the Seattle area, with bands such as Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. Who would ever envision a grunge/rock band coming out of Miami, Fl? I know one thing is for sure. Before I heard One Red Walls cd LIFE, I would not have advised gamblers to take this bet. However, after my ears became embedded with the euphonious sound of One Red Wall, I have altered my opinion.
While standing in line for food at the WaMu Orange Bowl Fan Fest on January 1st, 2007, my body got the feeling of ecstasy (and it was not ONLY from all of the good looking women at the event). What band could combine a medley of vocal sounds of legends like Cornell/Staley/Wylde with the heavy rock of Pearl Jam? (You listen to the song Torment, and argue with me that you do not hear a little old whispers from Layne Staley arise). In fact, One Red Wall would be able to perform a beautiful dedication requiem for the deceased Staley and Cobain. As I managed my way closer to the stage, I asked the pleasantly nice lady who was selling the bands merchandise who these guys were. She replied, I have been friends with these guys for a long time, and we really want them to be heard! I concurred.
According to the cd booklet, the fantastic four that recorded the cd consists of Jimi Robinette (vocals, percussion),Tommy Vincent (guitar),Miguel Gonzalez (bass),Joey Garriga (drums, percussion). When I first told Robinette that it would be an honor to write a review about One Red Wall, he looked almost as star struck as I was. That would be great, because nobody knows who we are! said Robinette. After going home, and listening to the cd a plethora of times, I was flabbergasted that this band has not become mainstream yet.
Life consists of 11 exhilarating tracks, that promises to help reinforce that not all music nowadays is bad, and that there is still hope for hard rocking bands that know how to keep you head-banging and craving more!
