TALLAHASSEE, August 18, 2004 -- The Florida Bar and the Young Lawyers Division of The Florida Bar are offering information and legal assistance to victims of Hurricane Charley. Attorney volunteers are currently being recruited to provide legal services to victims who could not otherwise afford a lawyer.
The Young Lawyers Division is working through the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Disaster Legal Services program in collaboration with FEMA to coordinate lawyer volunteers in federally-declared disaster areas.
Individuals without a lawyer and without the resources to hire one who need legal assistance as a direct result of Hurricane Charley may contact The Florida Bar toll-free at 1-866-550-2929 for referral to a volunteer attorney.
Florida Bar members who are willing to volunteer their services to individuals should send an email to anewberry@flabar.org with their name, phone and fax numbers, type of legal practice and additional languages in which they are fluent.

NINETEENTH CIRCUIT COURT JUDICIAL VACANCY

TALLAHASSEE, August 19, 2004 -- The 19th Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission is now accepting applications for a circuit judge position. Applicants must be an elector of the State of Florida, live within the 19th Circuit and a member of The Florida Bar for the past five years.
Applications may be downloaded from The Florida Bar’s Web site or picked up from the office of the Chair, Nita Denton, Esquire, at 100 E. Ocean Blvd, Ste 400, Stuart, Florida. 34994. The applications may be obtained from Ms. Denton’s office at any time between 8:30 am and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
An original plus a copy must be delivered/mailed to the Ms. Denton and one copy delivered/mailed to each member of the JNC by Sept. 10, 2004 at noon. A list of the commissioners and their addresses are attached.
